Group Curling
Whether you are a Corporation, Church, or Simply a group of Friends or Family, Get a taste of Curling for your group of @ 15-50+ people. "Aside from the unique experience each individual will have, Curling is a team sport " When: Pick at least two possible dates and times frames anytime during the year. Hopefully at least one of those times the Ice will be available and our club can get enough volunteers to help demonstrate. RSVP: Contact Bill McBride, Membership and Communications Chair at (816-523-2345) Cost: We simply charge thatever Pepsi rents the Ice to us at which currently runs $272 per hour. You can either rent 1 hour of ice time to get a taste of sliding the stone or for 2 hours, allow for a more training including sweeping and working as a team through limited game play if your group is comfortable. The Curling Club itself will donate their time and equipment, though any contribution to the club would be appreciated. Whatever time is agreed upon when reserving the ice you will want to plan on getting everyone in your group in the lounge above the rink at least 25 minutes prior to stepping on the ice. There is a 15 minute instructional video we will show you that will give you a broad overview of the sport. The same video can be watched onlline at the link to the right. This is followed by stretching, questions and answers before we will spend the remaining time on the ice. Please remind each in your group to wear layered loose fitting clothes to keep you warm and rubber-soled shoes to grip the ice, clean of debris. Some Helmets are available but with a large group, we recommend bringing your own. Pepsi Ice Midwest also has party rooms available for a fee when you step off the ice or Johnny's is located a couple blocks away should your group want to celebrate afterwards. Us Curlers call that Broomstacking. Groups/Corporations to date: American Academy of Physicians; Beauty Brands; Bushnell. Injury is a potential part of any sport, so your group will need to download the following Waiver to bring with them or be prepared to sign one before being allowed to step on the ice. While many people of nearly all ages (10-80+) of either gender can curl quite easily. Please remember that our volunteers are only there to show you how to curl. You must decide if the challenges of curling are too much.
