First started in 1987, the Kansas City Curling Club enjoyed nearly a 15 year run of actual curling in the Metropolitan Area. They first curled at what was called the Ice Chateau in Overland Park, but this was short lived. Changes in management resulted in the loss of affordable ice time and the club moved to Crown Center Ice Terrace. There, the ice sheet was smaller in size but, in curling outdoors, it gave members a sense of what curling may have been like some 400 years ago. Despite building interest in the club, loss of good ice times plus inconsistent weather made curling unreliable and difficult to build membership. So in 1995, the Club, finding no financial alternatives, simply stopped curling.
In 2003, a few members seeing the recent successes of new clubs in Texas and Florida (due to Olympic Fever?), decided to reconstitute the club. They first arranged for good ice time at a new facility in southern Overland Park, (Pepsi Ice Midwest), then renewed their aged equipment with generous donations within the club and borrowing one set of stones from the Aksarben Curling Club in Omaha, Nebraska.
Pepsi Ice Midwest has proven to be a superior facility. A modern building with dehumidification to reduce any frost buildup, the Club is able to get good keen ice that has eluded the club in all its years of existence.
Having finished our 5th season, we have managed each year a Free Open House , 20 week winter season , and a modest season ending bonspiel (competition between clubs). We also continue to add new programs, such as our 2 week Learn to Curl, 5 Week Beginners Curling Program and several group rentals to meet the demand as required. We have even started making plans to bring dedicated ice to Kansas City.

So as we continue to make history, please spread the word about this well-kept secret in Kansas City, so others may take advantage and become a part of our Club's future
